Travel Notes
Expenses: Antique remains a highly affordable, community-driven eco-tourism destination. While mainland entry fees, kawa baths, river tubing, and hiking guides cost only a few hundred Philippine Pesos (PHP) each, remote boat charters (such as voyages to Seco Island) run higher and are best budget-pooled with groups of fellow travelers.
Connectivity & Cash: Cellular reception is strong in major coastal town centers but drops significantly in the high-altitude terrains of San Remigio or far out on the open seas. Always carry cash (Philippine Pesos), as modern card terminals and electronic banking are virtually non-existent near rural eco-sites and island homestays.
Highlights: Listening to the children's choir on Mararison Island, navigating the swirly rapids of Tibiao River, and timing your mountain hike perfectly to witness a giant blooming Rafflesia flower are absolute must-experience moments.
Hospitality: Accommodations across Antique favor authentic community involvement. Visitors can look forward to cozy, spotless local homestays on the islands or scenic, rustic riverside cottages in the mountains that practice and promote highly sustainable tourism.
