Nomadic Experiences in Print

When I started this travel blog in 2008, I merely saw it as an avenue to branch out from my nonsense writings on my personal blog. I was not even traveling much at that time other than the normal summer excursions to provinces located within a 3-4 hour radius of Metro Manila. However, along the way I've become more and more fascinated with the idea of traveling as I recount how it all started on this blog's "About Me" page. Anyway, other than the two to three folds increase on the numbers of my travels around the Philippines, other rewards and opportunities soon followed - one of which was the chance to contribute an article for a local travel magazine.

The image above was my very first article published in the anniversary issue of Republic of 7107 Island Travel Magazine which was released to the newsstands on Dec-Jan. 2010. It was about Capones island in Zambales that has a majestic lighthouse built during the Spanish era where me and my friends Lot and Kristina traveled to during the summer of 2009.

After that I had the opportunity again to write for the same magazine after a few issues and this time I wrote about my experiences of riding the wild waters of Cagayan de Oro river last January 2010 - when me and Kristina celebrated our birthday (we were both born on Jan.15) at Lot's hometown of CDO.

My third article for the same magazine was about Calaguas Island whereI traveled to during the Holy Week of 2010.

Here is the article I wrote about Lake Sebu which came out on the September (Quarterly Issue) of Republic of 7107 Island Travel Magazine.

On the January - March issue of Susan Calo Medina's Travel Time Magazine, a photograph of mine of the Sto NiƱo taken during the Sinulog Festival was among featured on an article. It was displayed on a full page spread.

My fifth article was published in Republic of 7107 Island Travel Magazine's March 2012. It was about the Ati-Atihan festival in Kalibo, Aklan.

On the April-June issue of Susan Calo Medina's Travel Time Magazine, my article about the Feast of La Inmaculada Concepcion de Malabon was published. It's such an awesome thing to contribute to the magazine founded by Susan Calo Medina whom I've grown up watching on TV, as she travels all over the Philippines.

On the August Issue of Gala Philippines Magazine,  I wrote a short article about Puerto Princesa's Underground River.

Inside the Oct-Dec issue of Republic of 7107 Island Travel Magazine my 8-page article about Romblon was featured.

And on Feb-March 2013 issue of Gala Magazine, with none other than the "man" himself, Ramon Bautista on the cover, I wrote an article about the Hot Air Balloon Festival in Clark, Pampanga.

Again, for the seventh time (tenth overall) another article of mine came out in the pages of Republic of 7107 Island Travel Magazine in its Issue 3/Volume 4 (February 2013). I wrote about the Golden Mosque in Cotabato City and Kalamansig, Sultan Kudarat as part of the 7 Most Daring Destinations feature of the magazine, along with other writers and travelers who recently visited the not so well-known tourist places in Mindanao.

My eleventh published article came out in the April 2013 issue of Gala Magazine (with Lovi Poe on the cover). It was a short piece on what to do and where to go in the province of Cebu.

My 12th published article came out in the October 20 - November 2, 2013, issue of Expat Newspaper. I wrote about Project Jomalig - a volunteerism program organized by fellow travel bloggers and other wanderers and is featured on the newspaper's travel section.

My 13th published story came out on the May issue of Cruising: #Going Places Magazine. It is a short article about the island province of Camiguin.

"Thali Thoughts" about the famed Indian dish became my 14th published article as it appeared on the July 2015 issue of Cruising: Going Places Magazine.

My short article about the Visual and Spiritual Spectacle of Varanasi appeared on the July 12, 2015 issue of Manila Bulletin in its Lifestyle Pages.

The article about the richness of Verde Passage - and a call to action to defend our oceans appeared on the pages of Manila Bulletin's Panorama Magazine on July 19, 2015.

The August 2015 issue of Cruising: Going Places travel magazine features two articles I wrote; Calayan Island and Chavayan Village in Batanes. This is the first time I had two articles that came out in a single issue.

My third article for Manila Bulletin "Postcards from Hanoi" came out on the August 9, 2015 and features the city of Hanoi.

'Reads on the Road' was my 4th article (20th over-all) for Manila Bulletin that was published on August 16, 2015.

Cruising: Going Places included my photo-narrative "Kerala Tales" in its September 2015 issue.

Since its been a lifelong dream of mine to write for Manila Bulletin I decided to continue writing for them so I again submitted another article about the cultural triangle of Sri Lanka. It appeared in the broadsheet's September 6, 2015 issue.

Continuing on with my Manila Bulletin gig, I wrote a few more articles; about Zambawood in Zambales which appeared in the September 13, 2015 issue.

The first ever Ginsiyaman Music Festival held in San Miguel, Leyte which appeared in the October 18, 2015 issue of Manila Bulletin.

I also contributed an article for the first time at The View Travel and Lifestyle Magazine for their October 2015 issue. My piece was about my desert safari + Holi Festival experience at Jaisalmer, India.

For my 8th article for Manila Bulletin, I narrated my experience exploring these tiny islands off the coast of Inopacan, Leyte called 'Cuatros Islas'.

This year also saw me writing for the New York-based photography magazine called Resource Magazine for the first time. My contribution is a short narrative about a particular photograph I took in India during my trip there in March 2014.

and another one for Resource Magazine in their first quarter issue of 2016. (Stilt Fishing in Sri Lanka)

My first article published in India via the FWD Magazine.(Tea Country in Munnar, Kerala in India)

And here are my ssucceeding published articles mostly from Cruising: Going Places and Manila Bulletin.

Brilliant Ways to Travel Cheap which appeared in the January 3, 2016 issue of Manila Bulletin.

Why Backpack in the Philippines appeared as the cover story of Panorama Magazine on January 24, 2016.

The March issue of Cruising: Going Places travel magazine features my Kalibo: Bakhawan Eco Park article.

My story about the Ati-Atihan Festival in Kalibo, Aklan made the pages of Manila Bulletin's Lifestyle section on March 13, 2016.

I had the rare opportunity of interviewing Che Che Lazaro regarding her property; the Lotus Pod Farm located at Bay, Laguna - this article appeared in the April 3, 2016 issue of Manila Bulletin

My Date with Daet in Camarines Norte was narrated in the February 14, 2016 issue of Manila Bulletin.

The Eternal Love Story of the Taj Mahal in Agra, India was included in the April issue of Cruising: Going Places magazine.

My article about Kalanggaman Island was the cover story of the May issue of Cruising: Going Places magazine.

Both in the month of May, two other articles appeared in the pages of Manila Bulletin; an interview with Filipino photographer Enrico Dungca about his upcoming photography book; 'The Forgotten Americans' and 'Best Backpacker Hostels'
