Sorsogon Travel Guide 2026: Things to Do, Places to Visit & Itinerary

September 15, 2026

I’ve never forgotten what was, at the time, my longest road trip during my early backpacking years. As I made my way toward Matnog, the southernmost tip of Luzon, I found myself awed by Sorsogon's countryside, wondering if behind every mountain lay a hidden waterfall, a river, or another raw natural wonder. Countless return trips later, the province remains one of my favorite destinations in Luzon.

As part of the Bicol Region, a vast area in Luzon consisting of six provinces (Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon), Sorsogon occupies the southernmost tip of mainland Luzon, separated from Samar only by the waters of the San Bernardino Strait. Like its sister provinces in Bicol, Sorsogon stretches from mountains and waterfalls to beaches, lakes and surf breaks—and dotted with man-made attractions such as heritage towns, old churches, and stone and traditional houses. This, combined with its green countryside and delicious local cuisine, makes the long road trip here more than worthwhile. All of this contributes to Sorsogon’s reputation as an underrated destination that is sure to surprise any traveler.

Kalanggaman Island Travel Guide (2026): The Visitor's Guide to Leyte's Most Beautiful Sandbar

July 20, 2026

Few islands in the Philippines create such an unforgettable first impression as Kalanggaman Island. I remember coming from a long weekend of partying in Kalibo for the Ati-Atihan Festival, squeezing in a quick detour back to Manila to catch my flight to Tacloban before meeting my friends in Palompon. Those were the peak years of my travels around the Philippines—going home only to do laundry before setting off on another adventure.

As we approached the island, I still remember what a beautiful day it was. The sea was calm, the sky was clear, and before long, a long stretch of blinding white sand appeared against the crystal-clear waters of the Visayan Sea.

I had seen countless photographs of Kalanggaman's famed sandbar, but nothing prepared me for its length. I was surprised by just how long it was. It is one of those rare places that not only lives up to the hype but exceeds it. At high tide, the island seem to float above the sea. As the tide recedes, they become a pristine tropical playground where you can wander barefoot toward the horizon — just as we did first thing upon stepping foot on its soft powdery sands.

Masbate Travel Guide: Best Things to Do, Islands, Beaches & Itinerary

July 07, 2026

“Where is that?” is the question I get almost every time I recommend Masbate in response to online posts—usually from foreign travelers asking where to go in the Philippines. Masbate rarely appears on conventional Philippine itineraries. That absence is precisely what makes the province interesting: its three islands still revolve around cattle ranches, working fishing communities, small coastal towns and boat journeys rather than luxury resorts.

Palawan Travel Guide: A Quick Introduction to the World's Best Island

July 02, 2026

Having visited Palawan numerous times in the past has never diminished my excitement. Every time I set foot in this province, I feel as though something new is waiting to surprise and amaze me. There is something about Palawan that continues to captivate visitors, even when everyone already knows what to expect: jaw-dropping islands, secluded coves, emerald lagoons, lush mountains, crystal-clear rivers, and towering waterfalls. Add to that the charm of its laid-back small towns, and it becomes a province that never runs out of reasons to explore.

Wuhan Travel Guide (2026): What to See, Eat & Do in China's River City

June 30, 2026

Before arriving in Wuhan, my view of the city had been shaped by headlines rather than firsthand experience. It didn't take long for that image to fade. Instead, I found a city that challenged every assumption I had carried with me: it was remarkably clean, strikingly modern, and more organized than even many cities I've visited. As a massive metropolis sprawling across the intersection of the Yangtze and Han rivers, Wuhan elegantly links its historical Three Kingdoms heritage with hyper-futuristic transit networks. It stands out as an incredible destination for architecture enthusiasts, foodies, and slow travelers seeking an authentic slice of everyday life in mainland China.

Davao Region Travel Guide Directory

June 30, 2026

To explore the southern reaches of the Philippine archipelago is to step into a region where jagged, cloud-shrouded mountain peaks drop into crystalline Pacific breaks. The Davao Region stands as an exceptional example of this diversity, balancing booming urban hubs with ancestral domains and the great outdoors. This specialized Philippines Travel Guide serves as an index of my journeys across these provinces belonging to the Davao Region, highlighting exact field notes from my travel blog archives to guide your next exploration.

Dinagat Islands Travel Guide: Things to Do, Itinerary & How to Get There

June 09, 2026

Dinagat Islands is the kind of Philippine destination that still demands some effort from the traveler. Located in the Caraga region northeast of Mindanao, the province is a landscape of limestone cliffs, forested hills, long beaches and clear waters, scattered across islands and coastal communities that have yet to see the scale of tourism found in nearby Siargao.

Tainan, Another Southern Surprise | Taiwan

April 02, 2024

Having celebrated its four hundredth anniversary this year, Tainan continues to hold dear the ancient culture of Taiwan. It is the country's oldest city and once served as the capital of Formosa—the previous name of Taiwan—for two hundred sixty years, spanning the rule of the Dutch, the Kingdom of Tungning, and finally, the Qing Dynasty.

Discovering Kaohsiung's Many Charms | Taiwan

March 29, 2024

Imagine Taipei, but more relaxed. That is how I would describe Kaohsiung, Taiwan's second-largest city. Despite being laid-back, the city has evolved into a thriving metropolis brimming with modern living necessities such as charming cafes, walking paths, cycling routes, outdoor parks, museums, jazz bars, and art districts, all surrounded by adjacent beaches and expansive, lush, forested mountains.

Cagayan Travel Guide: Nature Spots and Other Places of Interest

March 21, 2024

Cagayan, situated on the northern tip of Luzon, typically gives visitors second thoughts due to the 12-hour or longer land journey from Manila. Doubt no more, wanderers; there are daily direct flights from Manila to Tuguegarao, the province's capital city, and the plethora of natural, cultural, and historic landmarks make a long-distance trip to Cagayan well worthwhile for those who choose to drive.

Kuala Lumpur Travel Guide: a 4-day Itinerary for Long Weekend Travelers | Malaysia

November 02, 2022

Kuala Lumpur holds a particular place in my memory. My very first air voyage was to this city more than a decade ago, just when low-cost carriers like Cebu Pacific Air began to offer fares that regular Juans like me could afford. In retrospect, my trip to Malaysia's capital city sparked my wanderlust. Hundreds of travels later, I was delighted to return to Kuala Lumpur to reacquaint myself with old haunts and explore new things about this bustling metropolis of cuisine and culture.

Holy Land Travel Guide: Places You Will See When You Go to Israel, Jordan & Egypt

May 25, 2021

When one mentions the “Holy Land,” the first thing that comes to mind for most Christians is the birthplace of Jesus Christ in the Palestinian town of Bethlehem, which is situated ten kilometers from Jerusalem. While this is indeed true, the scope of a traditional Holy Land journey encompasses three countries: Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. This route includes stops at a few historic locations in addition to retracing the footsteps of Christ, Moses, John the Baptist, and Mother Mary. Here are a few locations to inspire your own travel to the Holy Land.

A Travel Guide to Calayan Island in Northern Philippines

October 20, 2020

Part of the isolated cluster of the Babuyan Islands, this offbeat island boasts a bounteous display of rugged nature.

Despite living in an archipelago boasting some of the finest beaches and islands in the world, I still find myself dropping my jaw at the sight of a marvelous island setting. Such is the effect Calayan Island had on me the moment I first laid eyes on it. As the only municipality within the Babuyan Islands—a cluster of pristine isles situated several miles off the northern tip of Luzon—Calayan appears so remote and full of raw beauty.

8 Secluded and Off-Grid Philippine Beaches to Escape the Crowds

July 14, 2020

The future of traveling faced uncertainties brought on by the “new normal” or, as aptly put, the "temporary abnormal," until global medical health frameworks stabilized. Until then, travelers expected travel to become heavily reliant on strategic precautionary measures such as social distancing. Overcrowded tourist destinations would—for the meantime—be out of travel plans. This, however, challenged travelers to be extra creative in exploring alternative locations. Great news, though: beachgoers did not need to worry. Because in a country blessed with more than 7,000 islands, there were a lot of beach choices that perfectly met the criteria for wide-open spaces. Here were some of them.

Jaipur Travel Guide: The Pink City | India

June 10, 2020

As the capital of the Indian state of Rajasthan, Jaipur is one of India's most popular cities among tourists. Part of the so-called Golden Triangle alongside New Delhi and Agra, the city draws travelers eager to experience an environment teeming with palaces, temples, magnificent forts, colorful bazaars, and, of course—plenty of roaming cattle. All these, combined with stunning architecture, rich culture, and a lively culinary scene, make what is widely known as “the Pink City” an unmissable destination in India.

Things to do in the UNESCO World Heritage Town of Hoi An, Vietnam

May 26, 2020

The heritage town of Hoi An in Vietnam possessed a vintage charm dating back to the fifteenth century. Punctuated by well-preserved structures that shaped the storied past of that former Southeast Asian trading hub, it stood as a major tourist draw in Central Vietnam. Stepping back in time did not require a time machine; a stroll through the ancient streets of Hoi An achieved this beautifully. As I boarded my bus from Ho Chi Minh to Hoi An, I had already pictured a beautiful, age-old town awaiting me.

Why Antique Province is an Underrated Tourist Destination?

May 01, 2020

Located on the beautiful island of Panay, the province of Antique tended to get overlooked by tourists heading to Iloilo City down south, to Caticlan in Boracay up north, and to Gigantes Island in the east. Thanks to some travelers who wound up in Antique, word-of-mouth was spreading, raving about how that province teemed with wonderful destinations set across all types of terrain: mountains, forests, rivers, islands, and even quaint seaside towns. If you needed more convincing on why you should visit Antique, here were several things to do and places to visit.
